Happy Birthday! A greeting I know you’d hear a lot this day but I’d like to think mine and Boom-boom’s would be the sincerest of all (give this to us guys! :D).

The greeting would actually be an understatement to express how glad and happy we are for having you in our lives.

Four days after Boom-boom celebrated his first birthday, my classmates in high school (IV-Einstein) and I got a sort of reunion. I don’t want to call it as “the” reunion as those who attended didn’t even reach half of the class’s population.

But that didn’t make the event less the fun.

We did a lot of kamustahans … we ate… they drank (I’m breastfeeding remember?!)… We sang… and we had SO much fun (at least on my part)!

Those who made it were Vanissa and Stella (first ones to arrive), me, Robert Jay (dropped by), Claire, Norcile, Rudson, Sydney, Fe, Normalyn, Rubelyn, John, Jesreel, Ian (and his wife, Carla), Irene, and Verniel.

…now that sounds a little weird…

While doing some blog hopping to take my boredom away, I stumbled upon this blog which had a post about Compatomatic Lovebot. It’s some kind of a game that asks you several questions about you and your loved on (or any person for that matter) then “calculates” your compatibility according to the answers you gave.

And because I tried it, the result about me and Marvin (you don’t expect I try somebody else’s name, right?!) says that we are funny together (but not in a weird way according to the Lovebot). Well weird or not, the adjective “funny” is just really a weird thing to describe both of us. I mean I wasn’t expecting the result to be, “a perfect pair!” or anything related to that, it’s just that i think “funny” is something I never thought would describe the kind of relationship we have.

Well, it’s just a little game after all… You can try yours if you want.

Today, I just watched Caregiver together with my sister Mimi and my mom who’s a big Sharon Cuneta fan. So I guess that would make us one of those who really looked forward catching the movie on its first day.

And as usual, expect that the blogger in me would log in here what I think of the movie in the most objective way I can.

Here’s an honest review of the movie they say would really bring you to tears.

Plot:

Caregiver depicts the life of Filipino caregivers abroad, specifically in London. Sarah played by the Mega Star, Sharon Cuneta is an English teacher here in the Philippines whose husband, Teddy, played by John Estrada is asking her to follow him in London and work as a caregiver.

Leaving their only son in the country, Sarah follows her husband in a quest for a better life in a strange country taking care of old people she doesn’t even know.

While she and her husband planned to save enough money to bring their son with them in England, Sarah found out life is harder than she thought it is in that new territory. She struggles not just keeping herself distant to her patients but also dealing with her husband’s machismo.

Emotional Appeal:

As usual, Star Cinema used the struggles and longing of the OFWs to draw an emotional appeal to the people. From Anak to Milan and Dubai, the life of those working abroad never fails to give a dramatic plot, and this one’s no different.

From Sarah leaving her son to her life in the UK, there was not a moment that Sharon Cuneta did not shed a bucketful of tears. Of course we can’t question Sharon’s prowess in acting. She is, after all the Mega Star. However, I guess the movie has just been too much of a tear-jerker.

I’m sure most people who watched the movie has been brought to tears at some point in the movie. But I guess that would be because they can relate to the situation or has just been carried away with Sharon’s acting.

Editing:

I heard the movie’s production just spent a week editing the film. It probably is no wonder why it wasn’t that great, or I must say poor. There are parts in the movie that wasn’t edited well; scenes not properly cut or properly pasted.

Verdict:

With Star Cinema, expect a movie that’s really commercial. I mean you know, it has been noticeable in the film that it never missed any chance to make a subtle promotion of McDonald’s. I’m just glad she didn’t ride in a Super Ferry, took Calpul, and ate Magnolia ice cream in the movie.

Contrary to what the television say as Chito Roňo and Sharon Cuneta’s finest, I believe the movie is somewhat just overrated. It is good, but I don’t think it’s one of the best Star Cinema movies I’ve seen.

You bet I can’t get over the new American Idol, David Cook!

Funny thing is that I thought I’d lost interest in the show when our very own Ramiele Malubay was booted at the show. But then I heard David Cook’s nerve-wracking voice that’s so soothing it reaches my soul (and I am not exaggerating) I just can’t help but get hooked again.

Probably one of my favorite performances he had was when he sang “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carrey. I just love it! If you just listen intently to his song, I’m sure you’d say he’s got the better version; it’ filled with more emotions that one can really feel the pain and love there is in the song.

It looks like DC’s going to have a run on Mariah’s money.

Since Marvin’s in Manila right now, the only communication means that we have aside from cellphone is through the Internet. But chatting an hour a day still isn’t enough for me not to miss him. In fact I think it actually makes me miss him more.

Last night was no different. Right from his training he headed to an Internet café near his sister’s home for us to chat. We talked about usual stuff at first; how’s our son, how’s training, when he’s coming back. Suddenly I just felt like snapping at him for talking about things we’ve been talking about for days. I wanted to talk about something new (and probably promising).

And so we ended up talking about our plans for the future. When we would get married, where we will live, and where our son would go to school.

What I love talking about the most is the where we will live part. I mean you know, everyone seems to have a dream house. Mine’s living in a simple bungalow house painted in white. Adorned with classic bedroom furniture for us to sleep in at night, installed with chic bar furniture for our guests. Oh I would sure love it most if it’s from Highland Design Furniture.

Marvin was talking about a spacious lawn for us to have camping when the moon is full; setting up a tent there and go star gazing.

How I love to talk about the future!

Wow! Time flies so fast, indeed. Who would’ve thought it’s already a year since I gave birth to the cutest and smartest boy in the world (ahem). I could still remember the pains and troubles I had while conceiving my Vincent Jeremy. And last May 6 he just celebrated his first birthday. - the simple way.

Well there haven’t been much of a preparation since there’s nothing much to prepare as he just came out from the hospital a week before the ‘big’ day. It wasn’t extravagant but it’s nonetheless special; Marvin missed two days of his training in Manila to attend our son’s special day. Aside from that, my sister from Davao, Pling-pling had her vacation with us. So it was double the fun.

There was a children’s party in the afternoon and an intimate dinner with only our family and close friends as guests.

However, spoiling the event was my father who went home so late as he quite didn’t feel like having fun with us.

Anyway, what matters most is that Boom-boom seemed to have a great time celebrating his birthday with his daddy.

I’m a typical mom when it comes to my son. - I want everything glamorous and at its best! And because my son’s 1st birthday is coming up, i’ve long planned for a fabulous and beautiful party for him. It is after all his first birthday party. I planned for an expensive and chic birthday cake, a fab venue, a lot of friends and guests invited, cute giveaways, and everything that comes with it. Oh, the thought of grandeur and extravagance!

However, just a week before my son celebrates his first birthday an unexpected thing happened, he was rushed to the hospital due to severe vomiting. He stayed at the hospital overnight and had been under observation by his doctor. Fortunately or unfortunately there was no findings to explain his condition, and that means I paid for the hospital bill for nothing! (GRRR!) And that of course goes to say that the budget alloted for his birthday was spent on his hospitalization.

So for his birthday this Tuesday? We’ll just have to settle for whatever resources we have. In the end, none of my plans (and fantasies) about his birthday is feasible now.

Well the most important thing is he is okay now.

I guess being Narcissists is a ‘genetic’ thing. But on second thought, ain’t it something that everybody has in them (secretly for some)?

Last Monday, my sisters, Reggie, Mimi, and I indulged ourselves with photo sessions that of course featured the ‘inner models’ in us. We dressed, we made up, and had fun posing and ‘imagining’. Well what can we do, we’re a bunch of self-obsessed siblings.
